Between 06.07.2022-07.07.2022, a working session took place at Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport regarding the OLGA Project. This meeting was attended by researchers from the COMOTI Research Institute, professors from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, but also the project partners, ENGIE-CRIGEN from France.
On this occasion, our partners from ENGIE-CRIGEN visited the temporary waste storage ramp of RADP, in order to analyze the possibility of placing in the future a mini experimental station for biogas production, near this center.
The benefits of placing a mini biogas station, even on an experiential basis, has as purpose the production of biogas from the quantities of waste in the landfill, in order to use biogas on buses which connect the airport and the city. Another advantage concerns the recycling of organic materials, the production of clean, environmentally friendly energy, the interdependence with the use of conventional fuels.
The OLGA Project is a research project, which aims to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Cluj County and these actions represent an opportunity to be actively involved in current environmental issues, so the access to the temporary waste storage ramp of RADP for ENGIE-CRIGEN representatives is a first step in alignment with the European norms in force. Following the visit, Cluj Airport will work together with ENGIE to be able to identify the most appropriate method of waste treatment, in order to obtain biogas.
In this regard, the Cluj team will send a waste sorting plan to ENGIE-CRIGEN and will check the technical information related to its treatment but also the possibilities related to the installation of this mini biogas production station. ENGIE-CRIGEN will provide information on the possibility of placing a mini mobile experimental biogas production plant. The working session is a first step towards a fruitful collaboration in order to carry out the tasks of the project.
