Other ongoing projects
The continuous growth of cargo and mail air traffic was one of the priorities of the Avram Iancu Cluj RA International Airport, given that the development of cargo transport is an essential component for the realization of future intermodal connections.
Currently, Cluj International Airport does not own a building that has the destination/function of a cargo terminal. The processing of goods and postal parcels is carried out in the Old Aerogara Veche building, which has insufficient surface area for the volume and the requirement of air transport of goods, which generates the loss of income as a result of not providing sufficient spaces for the processing of goods.
As a result of the requests received from the freight carriers operating at the airport, it was considered to identify concrete solutions for the expansion of the area currently leased in the Old Terminal building, an area used for processing goods and postal parcels.
In 2024, the expansion works of the Old Aerogara Veche building were started in order to expand the area related to the processing of cargo-type goods.
The car parking arrangement project is necessary to ensure the parking spaces for the vehicles of the economic operators who carry out activities in the airport perimeter. Achieving this objective will contribute to increasing the airport's revenues from non-aeronautical sources, increasing the satisfaction of the airport's customers and employees, as well as the efficient use of the lands under the airport's administration.
In the period 2023-2024, the works related to the investment objective "Parking arrangement on the land adjacent to the fuel depot within the Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj RA" were carried out
In 2024, to increase the number of parking spaces, the execution of the works on the investment objective was started "Parking arrangement - building demolition area". Also, the building permit was obtained for the expansion of the parking lot in the western area of the airport
In the year 2024, Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport started the procedures to create a documentation that would allow In continuation the development of the airport infrastructure, respectively the realization of a study of solutions regarding the concession of a Cargo Terminal.
In 2024, the feasibility study was started for the creation of a new aircraft parking platform that will ensure the increase in the number of movements at the airport, the diversification of the types of aircraft that can be served and implicitly the increase in the number of passengers.
Considering the intention of attracting new airlines to operate at the airport and taking into account the request of the airlines already operating at Avram Iancu International Airport Cluj RA, to ensure the necessary conditions for carrying out repairs and maintaining aircraft, there is an opportunity to develop a aircraft maintenance segment.
In order to ensure the necessary conditions for carrying out the aircraft maintenance activity, it is necessary to create an appropriate infrastructure by building an aircraft maintenance hangar and its related spaces (space for housing aircraft, storage spaces, car parking, spare parts supply docks, platform for aircraft, etc.).
During 2022, the development of the sectoral contract whose object is development services "Feasibility study - Aircraft maintenance hangar and related movement areas" was followed, as well as the obtaining of all the approvals and agreements mentioned in the Urban Planning Certificate.
