Currently, the current passenger terminals have a passenger processing capacity of 3,5 million passengers, but during the peak hours of the flight schedule, there is congestion, especially in the security control area and the regrouping areas. passengers.
One of the objectives of the Avram Iancu Cluj RA International Airport development strategy to reach the threshold of 7 million passengers in 2040, is the construction of a new passenger terminal.
The duration of the construction of the new terminal, as well as the period during which the works will be carried out, will be determined in a Feasibility Study.
Construction of a new runway of 3.500 m
ÎIn 2011, work began on the construction of a new runway at the International Airport Avram Iancu Cluj. The works started to build the first 2.100 m of the runway constituted the first stage of the yearof the investment target "3.500 m runway - landing at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport".
The 2.100 m track inaugurated in 2013 was the first track built in Romania in the last 50 years, with a width of 45 m and up to 60 m with approaches.
The second stage of the project, i.e. the extension from 2.100m to 3.420m will allow intercontinental flights, but the start of the execution of the runway expansion works depends on the expropriation of land by the Cluj County Council and the diversion of the Someșul Mic river by the Romanian National Water Administration.
Infrastructure development for intermodal transport of passengers and goods
Both at European and national level, intermodal transport is seen as a sustainable and efficient mobility solution from the point of view of the resources involved, especially in terms of freight transport.
For this investment objective, the technical documentation was developed, through the implementation of the project "Studies for the development of the intermodal transport infrastructure for passengers and goods", a project for which non-reimbursable European funding was received, through the TEN-T program. (Trans-European Transport Network).

Photovoltaic park
The use of green energy to meet the energy needs of the airport aims to reduce costs by using renewable energy production sources with technologies that have high efficiency and to meet the requirements established by the Kyoto protocol in terms of reducing carbon emissions .
The project focuses on the realization of a photovoltaic park in the perimeter of the airport with an installed power of at least 2MW in order to produce electricity from renewable sources.
Lighting at the stage II platform, on the East side
The design and installation of piers containing nacelles with night-time lighting reflectors for the passenger boarding platform is being considered.
The location of the piers will be on the southeast side of the future extended platform for boarding and disembarking passengers.
