Completion of the project "Ensuring CAT. III operating conditions at runway 07-25"

Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, an autonomous management under the Cluj County Council, as a beneficiary of non-reimbursable funds through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020, announces the completion of the project "Ensuring CAT. III operating conditions at runway 07-25". The project was implemented following the conclusion of the Financing Contract No. 232/24.05.2023 between Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

The objective of the project was to modernize the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and increase its performance from Category II to Category III, by implementing state-of-the-art technological solutions. The new Category III Instrument Landing System (ILS CAT. III) will provide optimal operating conditions for airlines, and crews will benefit from more accurate guidance in performing landing maneuvers, even in low visibility conditions.

As a result of the project's implementation, the new ILS CAT. III will ensure the efficiency of air traffic and the operation of flights in low visibility conditions, which will significantly reduce the number of canceled or delayed flights.
At the same time, optimizing operating conditions at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport will contribute to increasing passenger confidence in the safe operation of flights.

Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport has successfully completed the implementation of the project and obtained the certification of ILS CAT. III operation by the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority. The new instrument landing system will become fully operational starting in September, after the installation of weather sensors by ROMATSA, the institution responsible for managing air traffic services.

The total value of the Financing Agreement is 8.500.354,66 lei, of which the amount of co-financing by the European Union is 3.035.847,73 lei.
For the project "Ensuring CAT. III operating conditions at runway 07-25" - code SMIS 2014+ 158457, the implementation period, according to the Financing Contract, is between 01.12.2022 and 31.12.2026.
The project is co-financed from the European Fund for Regional Development through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020.
