The General Manager of Cluj Airport, Mr. David Ciceo, participated in the ACI EUROPE Board meeting

June 25, 2026, Cluj-Napoca As a member, Mr. David Ciceo, General Manager of Cluj International Airport, participated in the ACI Europe Board meeting which took place on June 22, 2026, in Prague, Czech Republic.

One of the main topics on the meeting's agenda highlighted aspects related to the new Aviation Strategy for Europe. ACI Europe believes that the future aviation strategy must reposition air connectivity as a key component of the EU agenda. Members of the ACI Europe Governing Board argued that airports must be recognised as key players in the aviation ecosystem and the future strategy must protect and develop connectivity, while supporting the sector’s digital and green transition. The European Commission intends to adopt the new strategy by the end of November this year.

In the current geopolitical context, ACI Europe representatives also discussed the impact of the Middle East conflict on the aviation sector and the measures needed to recover air transport. The tense situation in the Gulf has generated flight cancellations and delays, a decrease in passenger traffic and an increase in fuel prices, which has led to higher costs for both passengers and air operators.

Other topics focused on issues related to reducing carbon emissions by 55% by 2030 and noise in the aviation sector, establishing the regulatory framework for granting state aid to airports, and implementing secure biometric systems that protect privacy while improving the passenger experience and strengthening operational resilience.

David Ciceo, General Manager, Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport – “Together with my colleagues on the ACI Europe board, we discussed the current challenges in the aviation sector. We are constantly collaborating with industry organizations aviation and with members of the European Commission to find concrete solutions that will lead to a sustainable development of European airports, passenger traffic and connectivity. The efforts of Cluj International Airport are focused on the development of passenger traffic, airport infrastructure, reducing carbon emissions, digitalization, improving the facilities offered to passengers and increasing the number of destinations. Compared to 2025, this year we have increased the route network by 13 destinations, and currently Cluj Airport offers its passengers the opportunity to fly to over 50 destinations in 19 countries.

The board meeting preceded the ACI Europe Annual Congress and General Assembly, which took place from 22 to 24 June 2026 in Prague. The event has become emblematic for the European aviation industry and brings together top leaders and decision-makers from the European aviation industry, providing an excellent platform for strengthening existing relationships and developing best practice models for the development of the air transport industry.
