AnimaWings connects Transylvania with Vienna and Frankfurt via direct flights from Cluj-Napoca
Marketing2026-07-17T12:39:09+03:00Cluj-Napoca, July 17, 2026 – AnimaWings, a 100% Romanian airline, continues the development of the regional hub in Cluj-Napoca and launches direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt, two European destinations with major relevance for the business segment, city breaks, international connections and Romanian communities in Europe.
The new routes will be operated starting July 17, with two frequencies per week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. With these launches, Cluj-Napoca becomes one of AnimaWings' main regional hubs, and Transylvania benefits from direct, non-stop connections to two important economic and cultural centers of Europe.
The Cluj-Napoca – Vienna route responds to the high demand from the corporate sector and offers fast access to the Austrian capital, an important European center for business, international organizations, events, cultural tourism and international connections. Vienna is a relevant destination both for business trips and short-term trips, as well as for city breaks and connections to other European or transcontinental destinations.
The Cluj-Napoca – Frankfurt route directly connects Transylvania with one of the most important financial and economic centers in Europe. Frankfurt is a European financial hub, a first-rate corporate and exhibition center and a destination with high relevance for the business environment. At the same time, the new route supports important connections between Romania and Germany, including for the Romanian diaspora and for passengers who travel frequently between the two countries.
"Cluj-Napoca becomes one of AnimaWings' main regional hubs, and the launch of direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt confirms our investments in the development of the regional network. Through these new routes, we connect Transylvania with two of the most important European economic centers and respond to a real demand from the business environment, passengers traveling for personal or tourist purposes, and Romanian communities in Europe. We continue to invest in Cluj and regional airports, with the objective of offering direct, efficient connections and full-service services to relevant destinations for Romania", stated Marius Pandel, CEO and co-founder of AnimaWings.
Alin Tise, the President of Cluj County Council mentioned on this occasion: "The development of air connectivity is one of the strategic priorities of the Cluj County Council, and each new route directly contributes to the economic, investment and tourist development of the entire region. The new direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt consolidate the position of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport as the main regional airport in Romania and offer Transylvania residents quick access to two of the most important economic and air transport centers in Europe. The investments made over time by the County Council in the development of the airport infrastructure create the necessary conditions for attracting new airlines and the continuous expansion of the destination network, for the benefit of the entire community. "
"Expanding the destination network is one of the strategic objectives assumed by the Board of Directors, and the launch of routes to Vienna and Frankfurt confirms that the development direction of Cluj International Airport is sustainable and oriented towards the needs of passengers and the economic environment. Through investments made in infrastructure, digitalization and the development of operational capacities, the airport provides the necessary framework for expanding the activity of airlines and attracting new connectivity opportunities. We intend to continue this path by strengthening existing partnerships and developing new projects that will contribute to increasing the airport's competitiveness on the regional and European market.", in turn, stated, Viorel Federiga, President of the Board of Directors of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport.
David Ciceo, General Manager of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport stated on this occasion: "Through consistent efforts by the airport management, today we are witnessing the resumption of direct flights to Vienna and Frankfurt, which represents a new step in the development of Cluj International Airport's connectivity. The two destinations will support the business environment but also passengers traveling for personal or tourist purposes, as well as those seeking fast connections to the global air transport network. We are pleased that AnimaWings is expanding its operations from Cluj-Napoca and contributing, including through the other routes already operated – Bucharest Otopeni, Istanbul, Athens, Thessaloniki, Olbia Sardinia, Zakynthos or Antalya – to the diversification of travel options available to our passengers, here in Cluj-Napoca, the main air gateway of Transylvania."
