Cluj-Napoca, 13 February 2025: Wizz Air, the most sustainable airline in EMEA*, today announces a new route for the summer season from Cluj-Napoca to Heraklion, Greece. The new route will be operated every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, starting from 17 June 2025. Basic fares start from just EUR 24,99 (RON 129**), and tickets are already available on the official Wizz Air website and via the company's mobile app.
Heraklion, the vibrant capital of Crete, is home to the ancient Palace of Knossos, a remarkable archaeological site that offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Minoan civilization. The city’s lively square, impressive Venetian fortress and museums welcome visitors to discover its unique cultural heritage. Exploring beyond the city limits, Crete, the largest Greek island, boasts stunning landscapes, from rugged mountains to uncrowded beaches, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Renowned for its exceptional cuisine, Crete offers delicious dishes such as moussaka, dakos and local cheeses, a testament to the island’s culinary traditions.
Mauro Peneda, Managing Director of Wizz Air Malta, said: “We are proud to launch yet another connection from Cluj-Napoca, shortly after our latest announcement last month regarding the route to Castellón. Thus, the newest flights to Heraklion, starting in June, underline our commitment to offering passengers convenient and affordable travel options, even for the long-awaited summer holidays. As the largest airline in Romania, Wizz Air reaffirms its long-term commitment to this market.”
David Ciceo, CEO, Cluj International Airport, said: "We appreciate Wizz Air's decision to operate another sunny destination from Cluj International Airport to Greece, namely Crete-Heraklion. In previous years, Wizz Air has also operated holiday destinations in Greece, such as: Crete-Chania, Corfu and Zakynthos. The new destination to Crete-Heraklion consolidates the tourist offer from the Cluj International Airport route network and we are confident that in 2025, the summer season will bring an increase in the number of passengers, thus contributing to the development of tourism and the economy in the entire region."
The route will replace the existing connection between Cluj-Napoca and Chania. As the main entry point to the island, Heraklion Airport will provide travelers with convenient access to the capital and the rest of Crete. With this announcement, Wizz Air is proud to offer 37 destinations in 14 countries from Cluj-Napoca, improving connectivity and travel options for local and nearby passengers. By promoting job growth and boosting tourism, Wizz Air demonstrates its commitment to supporting the development of Romania’s tourism industry and its overall economic landscape.
