International Airport Avram Iancu Cluj celebrates its 1 millionth passenger in 2026 for the 15th time in its history
Cluj-Napoca, April 29, 2026: International Airport Avram Iancu Cluj, Cluj County Council and the airline Wizz Air celebrated today, for the 15th time in the airport's history, the passenger with the number 1.000.000 registered in 2026.
Reaching the 1 million passenger threshold has been marked annually since 2010.[1], and this year, the 1.000.000th passenger was registered on flight W4 3382 Milan – Bergamo – Cluj-Napoca, operated by the airline Wizz Air.
The lucky passenger was selected and awarded during a festive moment organized upon the aircraft's arrival, in the presence of representatives of local authorities, partner institutions and organizations, the airport and the airline, as well as the media.
The President of the Cluj County Council, Mr. Alin Tişe stated on this occasion: "This anniversary moment reconfirms the passengers' trust in Cluj International Airport and highlights its essential role in regional development, by contributing to economic growth, attracting investments and supporting tourism. At the same time, solid partnerships with air operators, such as Wizz Air - an important partner for the airport - are essential for expanding the destination network. Cluj County Council reaffirms once again its commitment to supporting the development and consolidation of strategic partnerships that will lead to new stages of development of the airport."
Mr. Viorel Federiga, President of the Board of Directors of Cluj International Airport, stated on the occasion of this event: ""Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport marks today a new important milestone in its evolution, celebrating for the 15th time reaching the threshold of 1 million passengers in a calendar year. This performance reconfirms the airport's role as an engine of development and its leading position among regional airports in Romania."
Mr. David Ciceo, Director General of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, said on the occasion of celebrating the 1 millionth passenger: "We thank the passengers who chose Cluj Airport as their point of departure or destination, making this achievement possible, achieved 16 days earlier than in 2025. The event, celebrated together with Wizz Air – a strategic partner of the airport for over 19 years – confirms the upward trend and the existing potential regarding passenger traffic. At the same time, we appreciate the contribution of all airlines, partners and collaborators to this remarkable performance.
