Air Transport Police

The Directorate of Transport Police is a central unit within the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police without legal personality that exercises its duties under the direct coordination of a deputy of the General Inspector of the Romanian Police.

The Transport Police has material and territorial competence in direct relation with the component structures of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, both at the central and regional level.

On a territorial level, the directorate has 8 Regional Transport Police Sections (Bucharest, Craiova, Timisoara, Cluj, Brasov, Iasi, Galaţi, Constanța).

Main duties of the Air Transport Police:

  • coordinates the specific activities of the air transport police subunits within the regional transport police sections, in order to prevent and combat crimes in this system;
  • leads and coordinates the activity carried out in the air transport system for the defense of public and private property, of the economic and financial interests of the state, of the autonomous authorities and commercial companies that carry out their activity in this system, as well as of the legal interests of the citizens;
  • coordinates the specific activities of knowledge, prevention and discovery of the crimes of tax evasion, non-compliance with the import-export regimes, the customs regime, by natural and legal persons carrying out their activity in international airports;
  • organizes and coordinates activities for the identification of contraband goods in airports, the detection of persons who do not comply with the regime granted for the transit of goods on the territory of Romania, or their importation;
  • registration and storage of lost items within the airport premises.
