December 29, 2025, Cluj-Napoca – Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, an autonomous management company subordinated to the Cluj County Council, as beneficiary, and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, as delegated body, signed Financing Contract no. 8/ 23.12.2025 for the achievement of the Photovoltaic Park investment objective.

The project is funded by the European Union from the Modernization Fund through Key Programme 9: Energy Efficiency in Transport - reducing CO2 emissions through energy efficiency and new technologies in transport.
The construction of the photovoltaic park aims to produce electricity from renewable sources, namely from solar energy, which will result in reducing the carbon footprint and generate significant savings in the airport's budget.
The project will install, on an area of ​​approximately 8 hectares, almost 7.500 panels with a production capacity of 4,99 MW, a 12 MWh energy storage system and heat pumps, which use 300 renewable energy.

Following the implementation of the project, Cluj International Airport will obtain multiple benefits, such as increasing the degree of energy independence, reducing
environmental impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing electricity consumption expenses, as well as aligning with national and European policies and objectives regarding the transition to green energy.

In the current economic context, energy independence is one of the major objectives we are focusing on. We support this airport project, which is in line with the Cluj County strategy of reducing costs by using green energy and increasing the degree of energy independence."

David Ciceo, General Manager, Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport: "We will invest in renewable energy generation capacities and energy storage systems, dedicated exclusively to self-consumption. We hope to achieve energy autonomy in 2027. The implementation of the project is an important step in the airport's efforts to achieve the goal of reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2050."

The total value of the project is 55.552.085,01 lei (VAT included), of which the value financed from European funds is 30.449.087,00 lei (excluding VAT, ineligible), and 25.102.998,01 lei (including VAT related to the total value of the project) will be provided by Cluj International Airport as beneficiary.

The Photovoltaic Park project, SMIS code 347535, is financed by the Modernization Fund. The project implementation period is 12 months, between 2026-2027.
