Press Release: The General Manager of Cluj International Airport, David Ciceo, participated in the ACI Europe Board meeting
public relations2025-10-22T08:53:28+03:00Cluj-Napoca, October 22, 2025 – David Ciceo, General Manager of Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, participated as a member at the 145th meeting of the ACI Europe Board (Airports Council International, Europe region), which took place in Brussels on October 15. The meeting was attended, along with the board members, by Mr. Florian Guillermet, Executive Director of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and Mr. Filip Cornelis, Director for the Aviation Sector, within DG Move, EU
The agenda of the discussions included the most important and current topics in the field of civil aviation, including:
– ACI Europe's activities and objectives for the next period.
– ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) conclusions regarding the implementation of measures to reduce/eliminate aviation accidents, reduce carbon emissions and develop civil aviation in emerging countries.
– Removal of restrictions on security screening for containers of liquids, aerosols and gels with a capacity greater than 100 ml. ACI Europe, an organization representing over 600 airports in over 55 countries, stressed the need to accelerate the testing process of CB C3 standard EDS equipment and implement a common strategy and methodologies for countries in Europe to certify new generation security equipment with a high explosives detection capacity.
– Extension of the period for granting state aid to airports beyond 2027. The European Commission is currently carrying out an evaluation of the Commission's guidelines on state aid to airports and airlines.
This framework sets out the conditions under which public financing of airports can be allowed. The current guidelines will expire in April 2027.
– Entry/Exit System (EES) – The operationalization of the system has already started on October 12, 2025 and will be progressively introduced in all EU Member States
– Regarding passenger traffic, at the European level, August 2025 brought an increase in the number of passengers of 5% compared to August 2024. Freight traffic, on the other hand, recorded a decrease of 6% compared to the same period in 2024.
At Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, it is estimated that by the end of 2025, passenger traffic will reach approximately 3,4 million passengers.
