Cluj-Napoca, 19.01.2023 – The Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, autonomous management subordinate to the Cluj County Council, announces the implementation of a new project from European funds in the amount of 35.992.492,22 lei, of which 98% represents the financing of the European Union and the State Budget, and 2% the contribution of Cluj International Airport.

The new project "Increasing the safety and security of passengers at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport - Ensuring the safety of passengers at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport” consists of the purchase of safety equipment, the construction of a smart fence and the installation of perimeter surveillance equipment and a state-of-the-art closed-circuit television and access control system.

Through the implementation of the project, the Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport will benefit from new facilities that will increase the degree of security and safety of operations specific to civil aviation. The security equipment and systems will reduce the risk of illegal interventions, increase the information capacity, and the surveillance and access control activities will be optimized.

The project is co-financed from the European Fund for Regional Development through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014 – 2020 and has an implementation period of 89 months, respectively 12.08.2016 – 31.12.2023.

Through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020 (POIM), Cluj International Airport has implemented 2 projects worth approximately 43 million lei, it has another 7 projects worth approximately 156 million lei in the process of being implemented and under evaluation at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, another 6 projects of over 430 million lei.

Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport registered a number of 2022 passengers in 2.645.000, 81% more than in 2021. Compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, Cluj Airport recovered 90% of its traffic passengers, thus consolidating its position as the country's first regional airport.  

Cluj International Airport ended 2022 with a number of 23.800 aircraft movements, 36% more than in 2021 and 5% less than in 2019. In terms of cargo transport, last year at Cluj Airport the amount of transported goods increased by 100% compared to 2019 and by 21% compared to 2021.

Cluj International Airport estimates that the total passenger traffic in 2023 will be approximately 3,1 million.
