PRESS RELEASE 05.12.2024 - Completion of the project "Electric aircraft deicing/antiicing vehicle" SMIS code 2014 + 158005

Beneficiary of the non-reimbursable funds through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020, the Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, an autonomous authority under the Cluj County Council, announces the completion of the project "Electric aircraft de-icing/anti-icing vehicle", SMIS code 2014+ 158005. The project was made following the signing of the Financing Agreement No. 237/09.06.2023 between Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. 

The objective of the project consisted in the purchase of 2 electric de-icing/anti-icing trucks, necessary for operations to remove the layer of snow and ice from aircraft.

The deicers are equipped with a telescopic arm that extends up to 21 meters high, so they allow deicing any type of aircraft, and its handling is done using a joystick. The equipment is equipped with electronic display systems, and the vehicle's autonomy, at a full battery charge, allows the deicing of 10-15 aircraft. Compared to the previous models of deicers, for the operation of which the presence of two people was necessary, the new electric trucks also present the option of operation with the help of a single operator. At the same time, the use of state-of-the-art electrical equipment will support the significant reduction of carbon emissions, in accordance with international standards regarding the protection of the environment.

The electric vehicles included in the equipment of the Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport will ensure the reduction of the times for the de-icing/anti-icing of aircraft during the winter season and the possibility of simultaneous de-icing/anti-icing of several aircraft, thus contributing to the increase of the safety level of the operations of flight.

The total value of the Financing Agreement is 13.721.145,00 lei, of which the amount co-financed by the European Union is 4.902.700,13 lei. The implementation period of the "Aircraft de-icing/anti-icing electric vehicle", code SMIS 2014+ 158005 is 48 months, respectively between 01.01.2023 and 31.12.2026, it being successfully completed before the stipulated deadline.
