Cluj International Airport, present at the European Parliament through the OLGA Project

Airports, airlines, public authorities and policy makers gathered at the European Parliament in Brussels on 6 December 2022 to exchange views on green regions and airports, at the invitation of representatives of the OLGA Project. The European Commission provided some information through CINEA (European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment), which is responsible for the implementation of EU Green Deal support programs such as Horizon 2020, of which the OLGA Project is a part .

The event "Sustainable transition in airports: how the EU Green Deal Olga project contributes to low-carbon energy and mobility" was hosted by MEP Marian-Jean Marinescu (European People's Party) and aims to support replication through bringing together airports and regions of various sizes.

Cluj Airport was represented at the European Parliament by Ana-Maria Crețu, Technical Director, and Goron Maria-Andrada, leader in communication and dissemination in the OLGA Project for the Cluj Airport team. The Technical Director mentioned the objective and progress of Cluj Airport within the OLGA Project, as a follower airport. Within the project, Cluj Airport has both local and international partners and the event was a good opportunity to establish new objectives regarding its implementation.

The presence of Cluj Airport at the event once again confirms its interest in developing a sustainable future, in line with the expected transition to neutral aviation in terms of CO2 emissions. Cluj Airport is very involved in all the work packages of the OLGA Project, especially in those related to the Terminal Area (WP.4), Public Area Transport, Access and Multimodal (WP.2) as well as Energy&Hydrogen (WP.5).

The host of the event, MEP Marian-Jean Marinescu, president of the "Sky and Space" Intergroup and coordinator within the Commission for Transport and Tourism (TRAN) mentioned: "OLGA is a very well organized project and I hope that the results of this project will serve as a manual for airports with the best practices for decarbonisation. It is important to propose the best solutions for SAF and address several issues such as how to provide SAF to airlines in a sustainable way. Good luck with the project!"

The event was attended by 50 participants from the field of aviation, airlines and policy makers. The event launched a vital discussion given the current climate and energy context, with the hope of paving the way to a sustainable future.
