Taxiway parallel to the runway

On December 20, 2019, the financing contract was signed between the Ministry of Transport and the Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport for the "Taxiway parallel to the runway" Project.

The "Taxiway parallel to the runway" project - SMIS code 2014+ 125198, is co-financed from the European Regional Development Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014 - 2020.
The Project implementation period is 43 months, respectively between 01.11.2017 and 31.05.2021 to which is added, if necessary, the period of carrying out the project activities before the signing of the Financing Agreement, according to the rules of eligibility of expenses.
The total value of the Financing Agreement is 73.000.651,05 lei, and the POIM Management Authority and the Transport Intermediary Body grant non-refundable financing in the maximum amount of 27.930.126,98. lei
In the conditions of the evolution of air traffic recorded in the last period of time on AIAIC, through the construction of this new taxiway, AIAIC will be able to provide the infrastructure for a larger number of aircraft. Through the proposed investment, the construction of a taxiway, in accordance with the objectives of environmental protection, the project will contribute to the objectives of increasing accessibility and regional mobility, by ensuring the infrastructure necessary to serve ground operations in safe conditions and in a short time , ensuring possibilities of increasing the number of operating frequencies or introducing new travel destinations to other regions in the country or outside the country for passengers in the catchment area of ​​Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport.

It is expected that the project will contribute to increasing the degree of security and safety of passengers using air transport and of aircraft operating at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, which ensures an increase in the level of confidence of air operators in terms of operating in safe conditions and safety at Cluj airport. This will ensure the maintenance of the trend of air traffic growth at the Cluj airport, thus confirming the trust that both air operators and passengers have in the services offered by the airport. The execution of the construction works of the new taxiway parallel to the runway at Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport generates a particularly important socio-economic impact at the local and regional level, by ensuring an optimal flow of regional air traffic and by improving air transport conditions of passengers and cargo, which will support the air traffic of both passengers and cargo recorded recently at the airport.
Achieving the investment objective will have a significant social and economic impact in the northwestern region of Romania, generating economic benefits for the entire region (respectively, for a radius of 170 km around the city, where approximately 3 million potential passengers live, of whose servicing is a fundamental concern for the Cluj airport).

The New Taxiway will streamline the movements of aircraft on the ground and handling equipment, which will lead to the optimization of times to carry out ground operations under increased safety and security conditions, as well as ensuring the optimal framework to support the passenger traffic recorded in the last period at the airport. This passenger traffic implies an increase in the number of aircraft movements and the equipment that serves these aircraft on the ground. Streamlining ground operations will also lead to reduced times for handling operations.
