The event took place in the Passenger Departures Terminal, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Romania, Mr. Marcel Ciolacu, the President of the Senate, Mr. Nicolae Ciucă and in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Sorin Grindeanu.
The event was also attended by Mr. Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Mr. Alin Tişe, President of Cluj County Council, His Eminence Andrei, Metropolitan of Cluj, Maramureş and Sălaj, His Eminence Claudiu Lucian Pop, Greek-Catholic Bishop of Cluj Diocese -Gherla, representatives of the Cluj County Council, of the central and local authorities, honorary consuls, representatives of airlines and airports in Romania, as well as of other institutions with attributions in the field of aviation.
The project "Expansion of departures passenger terminal on the North side" was implemented from European funds, from the state budget and own funds, through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014 - 2020 and included the expansion of the departures terminal by approximately 7.200 m3, the creation of flows for the destinations Schengen and Non-Schengen, 9.000 new security streams, equipped with state-of-the-art security control equipment and the expansion of the aircraft parking platform by approximately 346 sqm. The total value of the project was over 412 million lei, approximately XNUMX million lei including VAT.
Thus, Cluj International Airport has 7 Schengen boarding gates and respectively 4 Non-Schengen boarding gates, and with the completion of the project, the processing capacity of the terminals at Cluj International Airport increases to 4,5 million passengers/year.
By completing this objective, Cluj International Airport benefits from the largest spaces in the Schengen and Non-Schengen areas, thus ranking first in the top regional airports in Romania, with an area of approximately 12.000 square meters. The investment objective was achieved by the association BOG'ART SRL, UTI CONSTRUCTION AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT SA and ACI CLUJ SA
In the new configuration, passengers benefit from new facilities that will increase the degree of comfort and improve travel conditions at Cluj International Airport, given that with the expansion of the departures terminal, more than 2.700 square meters of commercial spaces were created in the Schengen areas and Non-Schengen.
Also, the modern project for the expansion of the Passenger Terminal Plecări also considered green energy, by installing high-performance photovoltaic panels that were placed both on the terrace of the Departure Terminal and on the terrace of the existing Electric Plant. This photovoltaic panel system was created to improve the efficiency of electricity use, which aims to protect the environment by using non-polluting energy sources.
The Departure Terminal project successfully completed today represented a challenge for Cluj International Airport, considering the fact that the expansion works were carried out under passenger traffic, and on this occasion the airport thanks all the institutions involved in the management of this far-reaching project, respectively: the Border Police, SRI - Anti-Terrorism Brigade, the Romanian Civil Aviation Authority (AACR), the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration (ROMATSA RA), airlines, handling companies and last but not least the passengers who understood that the interest of the airport is improving travel conditions and bringing Cluj International Airport to modern international standards.
